Biography of Marie Simmons

Young Marie Simmons Marie Simmons is an award winning cookbook author, food writer, cooking teacher and food professional who has made a love of cooking, teaching and writing into a career rich in breadth and scope.

Marie writes a monthly column for Bon Appetit and a twice monthly LA Times Syndicate newspaper column.

Her most recent cookbook, The Good Egg received the James Beard Award for best book in single subject category for the year 2000.

Marie is the author of a dozen other cookbooks including Lighter, Quicker, Better(written with Richard Sax, and the winner of both the James Beard and Julia Child Cookbook Awards).

She also wrote the best selling 365 Ways To Cook Pasta, Fresh & Fast, The A To Z Series Including: A To Z Muffins, A To Z Pancakes, A To Z Bar Cookies , and A To Z Puddings; The Light Touch Cookbook (Nominated For Both The Julia Child And James Beard Awards) and Rice The Amazing Grain, which has been revised and updated and will be published in early 2003 under the name The Amazing World of Rice

Marie teaches cooking throughout the United States including the schools at Sur la Table in SF Bay Area and Los Angeles, Ramekins in Sonoma, and Central Markets in Texas. Class schedule available here.

A native New Yorker, she now lives in Richmond, California.
